In the beginning of March the AIB Sustainability SIG held a workshop about an Academic Career in Sustainability for PhDs and ECRs.
We would like to thank our speakers, who are also Committee Officers at the AIB Sustainability SIG: Sarah Ku (Georgia State University, USA), Marc Oberhauser (ESCP Business School – Madrid, Spain), Marina Schmitz (IEDC-Bled School of Management in Bled, Slovenia), and HaiTao Yu (Emlyon business school, France), for sharing their experience in job hunting.
They described their diverse backgrounds and pathways, answered questions about the effect of their PhD on finding a position with sustainability perspective, how to focus on the important things that really matter, shared their biggest challenges, the best career opportunities for junior scholars working in sustainability, and the most important lessons they have learnt from the job market. They highlighted the importance of building your own network and reaching to other scholars on global scale, consider changes in your interests and your personal life, finding your own market, and managing dynamics in the faculty.
The AIB Sustainability SIG Co-Chairs: John Dilyard (St. Francis College, New York, USA) and Shasha Zhao (Surrey University Business School, UK) were moderators of the event.
